Clegg Construction were pleased to welcome nine groups of students from Nottingham Trent University to its Norwich Union House scheme during December.
The students, mostly in their second year and studying Construction Management, were welcomed by Site Manager Rob King, who undertook a thorough induction before conducting a guided tour of the site, which is currently in its demolition phase. Rob was on hand to discuss the project's progress and answered any questions given to him by the interested party, who will produce a piece of coursework based on the scheme.
The Norwich Union House project is significant. The scheme, worth £3.3million, is the conversion of an existing office block into student accommodation to provide 88 rooms in 8 separate apartments. Being undertaken in the very heart of Nottingham City Centre, Old Market Square, the restricted site is above a popular public house and adjacent to a busy tram line which operates from the early morning until late in the evening.
The logistics of the project proved to be a popular talking point, with Rob explaining about how the site's logistical challenges, including deliveries and the removal of waste, are overcome on a daily basis and how the programme will progress following demolition.
