Clegg managed the design and build of River Crescent - an award-winning and highly energy-efficient residential development consisting of 136 apartments, underground parking, a health and fitness facility which includes a 20m swimming pool, a spa pool, a fully equipped gym and a business centre.
The building is based on a cast in-situ concrete frame, with reconstructed stone to the lower levels and handmade bricks to the upper level. To accommodate the stepped-back appearance, the penthouse level was constructed via a steel frame with extensive solar control glazing, taking maximum advantage of the river views.
With the development located in such close proximity to Nottingham’s River Trent, consideration was given to any potential flooding issues which resulted in the building being constructed with the ground floor above the 1-500 event level, together with a fully waterproofed semi-basement car park.
Low carbon features implemented throughout the scheme included high levels of sound and thermal insulation, brise-soleil shading, wind turbines, a closed-loop water source heat pump, and natural ventilation. In addition, high-performance glazing was incorporated to prevent overheating of the South facing apartments.
The building was subject to an Environmental Impact Assessment which gave due respect to biodiversity and long-term sustainability. The whole building was designed with ease of access in mind, with DDA standard ramps, wide doors with low thresholds and 10-person lifts.
The scheme began the process of Nottingham Riverside Regeneration, leading the way in eco-tech construction and renewable energy initiatives, and achieving an ‘Excellent’ eco rating.
